Help me raise funds to support children and their families currently in ICE detention at Dilley Detention Center in Texas and Delaney Hall in New Jersey.

For the past few months, I have been facilitating activist songwriting, drumming and singing workshops. In the mornings, I will be visiting children inside Dilley to connect and write songs, and in the afternoons, I will songwriting with children and adults impacted by ICE in the community.

All funds will be directed to impacted folks! Money raised will be used for commissary, phones and to pay for the commute to the detention center.

Arts education shouldn't depend on zip code, budget cycles, or which programs survive the next round of cuts, but too often, it does. Across the country, community artists are stepping in where systems have often stepped back, proving that poetry, theater, and music aren't enrichment extras. They're infrastructure for literacy, confidence, and belonging.

Join us August 20th for our next Quarterly Conversation, which brings together the artists doing this work on the ground, alongside educators and parents who've seen its impact firsthand. We'll dig into what's actually working, what stands in the way of scaling it, and what it will take in policy, funding, and partnership to make arts access a guarantee, not a gamble. This isn't a celebration for its own sake. It's a call to action for anyone who believes every student deserves the full spectrum of what education can offer.

Dear friends! As you know, over the past few months I have been building relationships and writing songs with a children currently in ICE detention in Dilley, TX.
As some of you also know, a few days ago was my 44th birthday!
For my birthday this year, I would love my community to help me raise $500 so that we can support the mom with 2 children; a 7 year old and a 13 year old, who have been locked up for 100 days with some commissary money, so they can purchase food, water and toiletries.
This would mean the world to me, to them, and I promise you; also to you!

When Lu Aya and I from @thepeacepoets @kairoscenternyc went inside Dilley Detention Center to visit with children in detention and we wrote "Sing Down The Walls", uplifting their yearnings; we promised the children we would sing this song eveyday, we would teach this song to everyone, and we would not stop singing together until ALL walls are abolished, all families are reunited and all children are free. It was a blessing to share this song with faith leaders, education activists and youth defenders at this years' Hall-Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry conference with the @childdefender1973 . Dear familia! I am so excited to take a few days off from my beach/vacation/PhD writing residency in San Juan, Puerto Rico to co-facilitate this life changing workshop with my comrade @iamsteffreed representing the @kairoscenternyc at this years'Hll-Proctor Conference at the @childdefender1973. In our singing & interactive workshop; "We Pray Freedom: Building Beloved Community Through Story, Song, and Ritual", we will draw on We Pray Freedom: Liturgies and Rituals from the Freedom Church of the Poor to share songs, stories, rituals, and organizing practices that sustain movements for justice and transform grief into courage, connection, and collective action. Rooted in the tradition of the Freedom Church of the Poor, this session will lift up Liturgies of the People—the work of ordinary people organizing for dignity, survival, and liberation. Through shared song, prayer, storytelling, and ritual, workshop leaders will invite participants into practices that have helped communities endure, resist, and organize through times of crisis. #singdownthewalls @freefamiliesforever @peacepoets
