Jazz Times Review
Bolivian-born drummer-composer Martin Urbach presents nine thoughtfully conceived originals on his auspicious debut. Vibraphonist Tim Collins and guitarist Brian Seeger bring a shimmering Burton-Metheney quality to the proceedings while saxophonist Scott Bourgeois is a key presence and potent improviser throughout. Highlights include the affecting waltz “Southern Damsels,” the harmonically flowing “Luna’s Theme” and the dynamic “Buscando Paz,” which features an uncannily melodic drum solo by Urbach. Seeger kicks in some nasty skronking on the cathartic title track while everyone stretches audaciously on the swinging showpiece “I Broke the Jazz.”
